About Me

At work, I am a co-founder and Managing Director of Foundry Group, a Boulder based venture capital firm that invests in early-stage information technology companies. If you really want to know all the details, check out my bio here. I am also a Managing Director and General Counsel at Mobius Venture Capital. Yes, I have a second work bio and it’s here. You’ll note that I was too lazy to come up with two completely separate descriptions of myself.

Before I was a VC, I was a lawyer and I practiced at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, which shortly after I left,
removed my bio on their website so you’ll just have to trust me. I was a startup and venture capital lawyer.

Before I was a lawyer I was a software engineer for three years at Accenture, which at the time was called Andersen Consulting and which never had a website with my bio on it.

I’m fortunate to have two degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, one in economics and another in law.

At play, I’m an active musician, home remodeler and burgeoning beer and wine aficionado. I also love to hike and try to get in one “big trip” per year. I’ve set up a separate page on my musical interests on this blog. As for home remodeling, I’m the third owner of a 1900 home and let’s just say it needs a little work.

I also am and adjunct professor at the University of Colorado Law School, founder of the Boulder Open Coffee Club, co-author of the AskTheVC blog and sit on the board of the National Venture Capital Association.

I live in downtown Boulder, just a few short blocks from work. I have a fairly low-maintenance roommate named Sammie. She likes to help me type.

  1. Hi Jason-I’m one of your followers on Twitter and have a project you might be interested in. My agency has recently started a social media project for a firm in Dallas who will be seeking out broker fraud cases, and any potential cases against organizations or individuals who sold Lehman Brothers Structured Note investment a couple of years ago. We’re looking for someone with your background to consult on the project. Specifically, we need a series of blogs, content for two sites.

If you have an interest, please contact me at your convenience.

    Take care-

  2. Not something that I can do given my responsibilities at Foundry Group.

  5. Just popping in to say Hi. I just spoke to Lynne Davis and she recommended that I check out your blog. I'm glad to see that you are as funny as ever.

  6. Thank you.  Nice to “see” you.  Hope you and David are well.  Your blog is great and inspirational, as well.
